Families register for area Angel Trees
BRISTOL -

It was a little bit colder outside on Thursday and that has many people in the spirit of giving.

Salvation Army Angel Trees will be in stores next week.

The Bristol Salvation Army told us 644 families are participating in the program, which is 14 more families than last year.

They told News5 that they're expecting that to add up to about 1,020 angels.

Officer Sara Buck said they got a lot of calls this year.

"It's very important," she said. "The families showed very much concern if they were able to get it and they just wanted to make sure they got in on time. They were calling ahead and some of them have called since."

We also spoke with the Johnson City Salvation Army.

They had 1,327 families register and 2,643 children.

They told us that's about the same as last year, although Carter County saw more families register this year.

Carter County had 25-30 more families sign up but the Johnson City Salvation Army said they expected that because Carter County numbers were a little low last year.

The Johnson City Salvation Army covers Carter County, Unicoi County, and Washington County.

Angel Trees will be in stores throughout the Tri-Cities starting Nov. 15.
