FDA approves new labels for Ambien
The FDA has approved new label changes for Ambien, updating dosing instructions and safety recommendations.
We learned the changes will include a warning for patients taking the extended release version of Ambien to avoid driving the day after taking the sleep medication.
That's because levels can still be high enough the next day to impair activities that require mental alertness.
The recommended dosage for men and women was also cut in half, for both the immediate and extended release versions of the drug.
The recommended dosage for Immediate Release Ambien is now 5 milligrams for women and 5 to 10 milligrams for men.
The recommended dosage for Extended Release Ambien is 6.25 mg for women and 6.25 mg to 12.5 mg for men.
