Firefighters battling hot temperatures

FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE HEAT
BRISTOL, Tenn. -

Firefighters are battling more than heat from the flames.

We caught up with the Bristol Tennessee Fire Department and learned firefighters are busy preparing for this heat.

As soon as their shift starts firefighters begin drinking water, in some cases every 20 minutes.

When they're extinguishing a house, fire crews also take more frequent breaks. "Our rehab is a little bit different, they start getting more and more breaks more frequently than average. We monitor their blood pressure when they're in rehab and fluid intake is the biggest thing right now," said Assistant Fire Chief Jack Spurgeon.

We also learned when the heat lasts for more than a few days, firefighters will begin using a misting fan to cool off while on the scene of a house fire.
