First local New Year's baby
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

The Niswonger Children's Hospital, in Johnson City, welcomed the first local New Year's baby early Wednesday morning.

Erika Lewis gave birth to a baby boy at 2:35 a.m.

He wasn't due until March and weighs only two pounds 14 ounces.

Lewis told us they named him Ronin.

"It means warrior or samurai ,which is like a fighter, which he apparently is," she said.

Ronin was on a breathing tube on Wednesday because his lungs aren't fully developed. They hoped to remove it Wednesday night.

We're told he will spend the next two months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Lewis told us she'll be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House nearby until Ronin can go home. The couple is from Abingdon, Va.
