Wine in Tennessee grocery stores could be on the November ballot.
monday morning, Food City grocery stores launched their petition drive in Kingsport.
Food City President Steve Smith says between June 9 and August 21, you can sign petitions at many area stores to get the issue put on local ballots.
Smith said this would bring much-needed money back to the Volunteer State. "I think what people forget about is there's a lot of leakage that goes to Virginia and Georgia around the Chattanooga market, or goes to other states across [Tennessee]. When we get those sales taxes back into Tennessee, that will be positive for communities struggling with some of their budgets right now", said Smith.
Smith told News 5 that wine taxes could bring $32 million to Tennessee.
