Free flu clinics in Northeast Tennessee

Four children have died from the flu in Tennessee and health officials are urging people to get a flu shot.

We went to a free flu shot clinic on Thursday at the Washington County Tennessee Health Department.

Nurses there told us they had a steady turnout all day and expected another rush before they closed at 6:00 p.m.

They said they had more than 200 people come in for vaccines last week.

Officials told us Tennessee still has a high level of the flu.

"We do seem to be in the middle of flu season," said Dr. David Kirschke, the medical director for the regional health office in Johnson City.  "We are still seeing severe flu so we definitely recommend if people haven't had the opportunity to get vaccinated, they go ahead and do that now."

Kirschke also suggests people wash their hands. He said if you do get the flu, wait to go back to work until your fever has been gone for 24 hours.
