Governor McAuliffe addresses health care concerns in Wise County
Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe visited Wise County, Virginia Friday to discuss health care issues and concerns in the region.
He tells News 5 that many people in Virginia are in need of health care.
He says it's morally, socially and financially the right thing to do because lives are in jeopardy. Governor McAuliffe wants to close the coverage gap but says the House of Delegates refuses to work with his office to close it.
The governor adds that they have teams working around the clock to help close the gap and he'll be making an announcement within the next month on what he can do to change this.
"I would go back and remind everybody to call their members of the House of Delegates. Lets not have to wait for incremental steps. We have the ability today to provide health care for 400,000 [people]," adds McAuliffe.
Lee County, Virginia lost their only hospital nearly a year ago and McAuliffe says this isn't about politics anymore, it's about saving people's lives.
