WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -

As the rainfall continued throughout Wednesday night, some residents kept watch over the roads and their homes as water approached.

Standing water was the scene throughout much of Washington County, Virginia after continued storms. Water stood in the street and some roads were impassable.

Off of Hillandale Road a gravel road was completely washed out because of the gushing water. We're told the road looked just the same on the opposite side. Drivers were also slowing down on Old Salt Works Road where water was standing inside a tunnel.

We passed VDOT crews out working Wednesday evening who told News 5 they only expect the flooding problem to get worse because the rain is expected to continue throughout the next few days. Law enforcement wants to remind you that if you see water standing in the road to turn around, because you don't know how deep the water is across the road.

We also spoke with Sheriff Newman, who told us there were no evacuations planned for the Washington County, Virginia area, but if needed his department will assist with any evacuations.
