The Old Salem Historic District in Winston-Salem will hold a ceremony Thursday naturalizing a dozens of people born elsewhere who want to become Americans. Everyone will take an oath of allegiance to their new home country and receive a certificate of citizenship.
The ceremony will take place on the spot where an Independence Day celebration first took place in Salem in 1783.
Admission to the naturalization ceremony is free. Streets around Salem Square will be temporarily closed to vehicles during the event.
