Incident with small plane at Tri-Cities airport reported

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. -

UPDATE 2:21 p.m.: According to Melissa Thomas at Tri-Cities Regional, shortly before noon a small private aircraft doing training exercises ran off the runway and hit a nearby antenna array.

Two people were on board, but neither was injured. There was some damage to the aircraft and antenna array.

The runway was closed for two hours while the scene was cleared, causing some delays. The runway is operating normally now.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft Baron, was doing training exercises related to a simulated takeoff or simulated engine failure.

UPDATE 12:54 p.m.: We have more information now about the incident involving a small airplane at the Tri-Cities Regional Airport.

We spoke with the Sullivan County EMA director and learned a small plane appears to have gone off the runway. Sullivan County authorities are on the scene assisting airport authorities, but we are told it appears at this time there aren't any injuries.

We have a crew on the scene and will have more information as soon as we learn it.

We have checked the airport website and learned an Atlanta-bound flight that was to leave at 12:26 p.m. was the only flight listed as delayed.
