LYNCHBURG, Va. -

The prosecutor's office in Lynchburg says it is awaiting the results of forensic testing on evidence linked to the shooting death of a 19-year-old student at Liberty University.

The student, Joshua Hathaway, was killed on Nov. 20 by an armed security officer at Liberty after investigators said he attacked the officer with a hammer.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said it is working with Lynchburg police in the investigation.

The News and Advance reports that evidence has been submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and the medical examiner is conducting toxicology tests. Results of those tests can take weeks or months.

Court records show that investigators found bullets and a cartridge case in Hathaway's dorm room.

Hathaway was from Lubbock, Texas.
