Johnson City ice cream shop robbed
Johnson City Police are looking for a man they say robbed an ice cream shop and officers have a warning for workers all workers leaving businesses at night.
Police Sergeant Kevin Peters says Menchie's was robbed late Sunday night. He says the night manager locked the store and was heading to his car when someone walked up to him and demanded to be let inside the store.
Peters says the suspect said he was armed but never produced a weapon. The manager opened the store after being threatened and the suspect stole money from the safe.
Peters encourages everyone to check their surroundings before walking out alone. "If the employees walked out in pairs that might deter some actions like this, but this subject was by himself at the time and therefore he was a pretty easy target," adds Peters.
Peters tells us there have been other convenience store robberies in the city, but they don't believe this one is connected.
The case in still under investigation. Anyone that has information is encouraged to call the Johnson City Police Department at (423) 434-6160.
