Johnson City residents could see a tax increase next spring to pay for city projects. Mayor Ralph Van Brocklin made that comment this morning at the unveiling of a new sign that features the downtown's new logo.
The mayor is hoping to open the eyes of private investors and lure them to the historic downtown area. But he says the city will have to invest several million dollars in order to show investors that commissioners are committed to the downtown community.
The problem is those funds are not in the current city budget. Mayor Van Broklin says, "We will be talking in the spring about a tax increase. This being one of several different things that we need to discuss very seriously to accomplish."
The new logo will be used in future marketing and promotion campaigns for the downtown.
