KENT HARRIS
ERWIN, Tenn. -

The trial of former Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris will move forward next month despite a defense motion trying to get some of the charges dismissed.

According to court staff, Judge John Kerry Blackwood denied a defense request to toss out the official misconduct charges against Harris.

Harris is accused of using the sheriff's department supplies and equipment to prepare a letter asking for money to pay his defense attorneys' fees while he was on the job as sheriff.

The former sheriff faces numerous felony charges ranging from tampering with evidence to official misconduct.

Harris went to trial twice on a theft charge and both times it ended in a hung jury.

His next trial is set to begin in early July.
