UPDATE: Four-year-old dies after car crash

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

UPDATE 10:40pm: We've learned the four-year-old boy in this crash has died.  According to Kingsport Police, he was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he died shortly after his arrival.

Kingsport Police said they want to extend their deepest sympathies to the victims who lost their lives Wednesday.

ORIGINAL STORY: A deadly crash in Kingsport Wednesday afternoon killed the driver of a car and left a four-year-old boy in critical condition.

The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 26 at mile marker 1.4.

Police say a Honda Civic, driven by 30-year-old Terri Temple, lost control and struck another car sitting on the side of the interstate.

Police say Temple was killed in the crash. The four-year-old boy who was in the back seat was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries.

Officers are trying to find out why Temple left the roadway.
