Legal bills for Virginia governor investigation rise

RICHMOND, Va. -

The taxpayer cost of the legal bills for representing Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is rising.

The bills for a case involving theft charges against the former executive mansion chef have grown by more than $90,000.  June bills represented a total of 396 hours worked by former state Attorney General Anthony Troy and 12 other attorneys.  That brings the total cost to more than $143,000.

Troy took on the case in April when Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli stepped down because of conflicts of interest.  A report issued by Troy concluded the governor broke no law by not disclosing thousands of dollars in gifts and loans given to the governor and his family.
