Lynchburg man sentenced on child pornography charge

LYNCHBURG, Va. -

A Lynchburg man faces up to 17 years in prison for receiving child pornography.

Jesse Leon Coleman will be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Lynchburg. Coleman pleaded guilty in November.

Prosecutors say Coleman was part of a group of men who regularly received emails containing child porn from a man in Russia.

Federal sentencing guidelines call for a term of 14 to 17 and a half years. Prosecutors want a sentence at the high end of the range. They cite the former sailor's 1998 conviction in military court for child pornography and his admission to having sex with teenage males during his international travels with the Navy.

Defense attorneys are seeking a lighter sentence. They say the overseas sexual encounters were consensual, and there's no proof Coleman's partners were minors.
