More hot, rainy weather means more fleas on your pets

The heavy rain we've been experiencing recently is even affecting our pets. A local veterinarian tells us they're seeing more cases of fleas this year.
We found out the mild winter didn't kill off all of the flea population. That, mixed with the hot, humid and rainy weather, has made a perfect breeding ground. "It increases humidity, keeps the ground wet and allows the fleas to reproduce without any problem whatsoever," said Dr. Mark Riehl, a veterinarian with Animal Medical Clinic in Bristol, Tennessee.
Dr. Riehl says you should treat all of your pets to protect them against fleas, even ones that only stay indoors, because you can carry them into your home on your clothing and pass them on to your animal.
