Motorcycle Awareness Month in Tennessee is kicking off on Friday.

The Tennessee Governor's Highway Safety Office, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are holding a 10 a.m. event at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall in Nashville.

Officials say Tennessee has seen a drastic increase in motorcycle crashes and fatalities over the last several years.

Last year, more than 3,000 motorcycle crashes occurred in Tennessee, resulting in 139 fatalities. So far this year, there have been 386 motorcycle crashes, resulting in 23 fatalities.
