The new year is set to usher in many new laws, one of which will directly impact some in the Volunteer State.

A bill becomes law Wednesday that requires concussion training for all coaches and athletic directors at schools.

We've been telling you about the concerns with athletes who take hits to the head in football and other contact sports. Started January 1, 2014, Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey says staff must recognize the signs of concussions and take appropriate action with injured players.

"This is the first step," Ramsey told us. "I think if we do the proper training, that this will solve the problem and bring some recognition that there is a problem."

Health experts believe if concussions aren't treated properly, athletes could have more severe health problems later in life.
