New Information on vehicle crash in Kingsport

KINGSPORT, Tenn -

News Five has new information about a crash in Kingsport that happened on June 9, 2014.

Kingsport police tell News Five the driver's blood alcohol content was over three times the legal limit.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Kingsport Police Patrol and Traffic Units responded to Interstate 81 at Mile maker 64.8 in reference to a single vehicle crash.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway into the median. In an attempt to return the vehicle to the traffic lane,  54 year old James Hoover appeared to have over corrected, which caused the vehicle to spin sideways in the traffic lanes and then roll repeatedly down the interstate.

Hoover was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger, Jackson Meadows was not wearing his seat belt either; however, according to witnesses, he was not ejected, and crawled out of the vehicle under his own power immediately following the crash.

Meadows received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S.

Hoover succumbed to his injuries and died at 3:59 PM after his arrival at Holston Valley Medical Center.

On Aug. 7,  the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Laboratory submitted the toxicology results revealing that Hoover had a blood alcohol content of 0.26 at the time of the crash.
