New logos are new expense for ETSU

ETSU Director of Marketing Jennifer Clements has been busy looking at logos these days.
It's out with the old, in with the new for the university, and Clements tells us it was the right time to change logos. "Specifically with all of the things that we have going on," she said. "First of all, we are rejoining the Southern Conference. Also then with the return of football and having that new program with athletics, it's just a new era for athletics and it's a great opportunity and time for us to make this change."
But change comes with a cost. As it turns out, not as many ETSU bucks were spent on the logo change as there could've been. "We spent $14,700," Clements said. "This is very conservative if you look at other organizations, businesses, and universities. You can spend up to hundreds of thousands of dollars."
Despite the bargain on the new Bucs look, some might question the timing of the logo expense. Over the last year, the university has contended with budget cuts and lack of state funding for a new performing arts center and new football stadium. But Clements tells us the timing for the logo change is still perfect. "With the unveiling of the new logo for our academics, it's the perfect time also for athletics to join that unified look for the university."
The look will be on display for a full season of Buccaneer home basketball games at Freedom Hall this season.
And it looks like the Bucs new home is almost ready. "There is an agreement in principle with the city," Clements said. "We're just trying to finalize a few things, cross some t's and dot some i's. We are just really excited about being a part of that and working with the city. It's a great partnership between the city and the university and we're really looking forward to playing basketball there."
