Two new phone scams have targeted victims in Northeast Tennessee.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office said in one attack, scammers are pretending to be from Publisher's Clearing House. The scammer calls the victim, claiming the victim has won a large sum of cash, and in one case a Mercedes-Benz. The scammer asks the victims to purchase a "green dot card" to cover taxes on winnings, and then provide the number on the card in order to collect the winnings.
In the other phone scam, deputies said the suspect told the victim that the victim owed money and will be arrested unless the victim pays up.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says two people have paid the scammers in the last week.
