CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. -

The New Year holiday is the second busiest day of the year for fireworks, which is helping local businesses like Granny's Fireworks in Carter County.

The owner Wilma Horner tells us while New Year's is the second busiest day, they only do about one-fourth of the business they see on the 4th of July.

Horner tells us some people come in looking for sparklers, and others want to go all out with a fireworks show.

Horner says to be careful when you light fireworks. "The debris and things that come down, it's going to be out before it hits the ground. But when you're shooting fireworks, do it at a safe distance away from the people you're shooting the display for."

Horner says to also keep a safe distance between the fireworks and your home and any trees in the area. She encourages parents to keep a close eye on their children, even around sparklers, because some of them can get hot quickly.
