Donnie Cox and Preston Ayres introduce Samantha Kozsey, the newest member of the WCYB morning team.

BRISTOL, Va. -

News 5 WCYB-TV has named Samantha Kozsey as the new anchor for News 5 Early Today, News 5 Today and News 5 at Noon.  Kozsey, a veteran news reporter and anchor, replaces Tarah Taylor, who left the station in December for a position outside of television.

"I am thrilled to be part of the WCYB family," Kozsey said. "This station has such history in the Tri-Cities area, and I’m humbled to be part of the team," she added.

Kozsey knows our area well.  She started her TV news career in nearby Bluefield, West Virginia.  The University of Missouri graduate relocated here four years ago after reporting and anchoring news in Charleston/Huntingdon, WV, as well as stations in St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

"I really feel like I’m coming home," she said. "Preston and Donnie have really made me feel at home here, so I’m anxious to get going.”

Kozsey will make her on-air debut on News 5 WCYB Monday, January 27. She says that like her predecessor, "I'm committed to the excellence that this station is known for."

Jack Dempsey, Vice-President and General Manager of WCYB, calls Kozsey a great fit for the station. "She has ties to our area, knows our station well and understands how important it is to get the facts right and deliver them to viewers quickly and accurately."

"As a mom, she understands the issues important to families across our area and she cares about our viewers," Dempsey said.

Preston Ayres, co-anchor of News 5 Today welcomes 'Sam' to the desk, and says, "she’s the real deal, an experienced journalist and anchor who is genuine and friendly."

As for Kozsey, she calls the chance to be a part of the News 5 team, "a dream come true." She adds anchoring and reporting news has been her goal since she was a child.

Samantha and her husband, Bill, have three children and a dog named Frannie.
