Bristol, Tenn. -

Northeast State Community College now has a physical presence in all of the Tri-Cities with the ribbon cutting of their new Bristol facilities today.

It's not a typical stale educational type of building, it's located at 620 State downtown.

It's not just expansion for the college, but convenience for the students.

As soon as one steps off the elevator on the third floor of 620 State Street it doesn't remind you of an educational setting.

The rooms are designed and built to give the Northeast State Community College presence in Bristol and more comfortable feel.

"We wanted to keep the theme of the school as the building is. With the building the vision with business is creating an experience for folks when they come in. They look and say wow and the students to come and see this is going to be a neat place to go to school," Says Allen Hurley developer of 620 State.

It's not just the building and the classrooms, it's the convenience for students in the area that might not be able travel to the main campus in Blountville.

"It's the whole purpose, the whole reason for the state community colleges, to make higher education and training services accessible and make it in terms of affordability and provide a good community that's supportive," Keith Young, Bristol dean said.

A signature program that will be offered at the Bristol campus will be entertainment technology, training those who make entertainers look and sound good for a concert.

"For students who want to learn to set up for a theatre, for a church, for hotels, for music events, indoor or outdoors. The students will get training as a technician," Says Northeast State president Janice Gilliam.

Classes are set to get underway with the first summer session June fourth.

A summer institute for entertainment technology will be held the end of july with guest Doyle Lawson.
