UPDATE: Johnson City Police have released the name of the victim in a deadly crash involving a cow.
Police tell News 5, 49-year-old James Sparks of Kingsport hit a stray cow on Interstate 26 near mile marker 12.
Sparks was taken to Johnson City Medical Center where he died.
We're told about an hour later another driver hit another cow down the road from where the first accident occurred. Police say the driver in that accident was OK.
Officers say they believe the cows got out through a hole in a fence at a nearby farm.
The investigation is ongoing.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Johnson City Police Department tells News 5 that one person is dead, following a crash Friday night on Interstate 26 East near mile marker 12.
Responding units discovered that a vehicle had stuck a cow that was in the roadway just before 11 o'clock Friday night.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was transported to Johnson City Medical Center, but later died.
The investigation is continuing by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Homicide Team, and the name of the victim has not been released. We will continue to update you with more information when it becomes available
