Police investigating crash in downtown Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. -

The driver who hit a downtown Bristol sign Tuesday has been charged for not having car insurance.

According to the Bristol, Tennessee police report, 79-year-old Lee Bacel was cited for financial responsibility law.

Police say Bacel hit two cars and then a sign on the corner of State Street and Volunteer Parkway.

Bristol, Tennessee city officials say the sign, with granite and custom iron work, cost about $80,000.

Plans to replace the sign are still in the works.


Bristol, Tennessee Police are investigating a crash involving a pickup truck at State Street and Volunteer Parkway. The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon. 

Police say the man driving a red truck struck two cars before crossing the roadway.   

Officers tell us the pickup truck then hit a brick sign.

The driver was taken to a hospital. No charges have been filed.
