KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Kingsport Police say a group of five people used an elaborate shoplifting scheme to steal thousands of dollars worth of items from a local store.

Officers say the group got away with nearly forty electronic items from the Best Buy on East Stone Drive.

Police say the surveillance camera video below shows the suspects went to the headphone and GPS watch section, where the items are secured to the shelving. Officers say they cut the tops off of the packaging, then two women came through and collected the items off the floor.

Police believe an accomplice worked to distract the employees.

Photos of the suspects leaving the store are attached above. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (423) 229-9429.

Citizens are encouraged to use caution when purchasing items, such as those stolen in this incident, from non-traditional outlets such as Craigslist or Ebay unless they are dealing with a known, long-time, high-rated seller.
