DEXTER LUNCEFORD
CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. -

It was one of the closest political races in Carter County, Tennessee primary election history -- Dexter Lunceford won by just 68 votes over eight-year incumbent Chris Mathes in the Republican primary for Carter County sheriff.

Lunceford has nearly 30-years of city, county and state law enforcement experience on his resume.

He tells us if he's elected in the August general election, there are a couple of major items on his sheriff's department fix-it list. "Expenses. The budget's gone from $3.2 million to $7.2 million, approximately. That needs to be addressed. You'll see an immediate change in the number of patrol officers in your neighborhoods and protecting your businesses," he said. "Then I plan on, with the cooperation of the judges of course, beginning some alternative sentencing programs, which will reduce the jail population by at least 20 percent."

Lunceford will face independent candidate James Parrish in August.
