SMYTH COUNTY, Tenn. -

Thursday night you can ask questions and have your voice heard about a proposed power plant in Smyth County, Virginia.

The plant would be built on a 108-acre site just off Interstate 81 exit 50 near Atkins.

Competitive Power Ventures wants to build the 700-mega-watt natural gas-fired plant at a cost of $650 million dollars.

CPV is trying to convince Appalachian Power to buy into the project to diversify its fuel mix.

AEP leaders say the utility is already going that by converting its coal plant into natural gas

AEP may not need additional capacity for 8 to 10 years.

The meeting will be held at Atkins Elementary School on Lee Highway in Atkins.

It starts Thursday night at 6:30.
