Public hearing Tuesday on Virginia transportation plan
Local residents will have the opportunity Tuesday to give their opinions on a proposed transportation plan for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation will hold a public hearing on the six-year transportation improvement plan.
The hearing surrounds the $13 billion plan proposed April 16th, to pay for highway construction, along with rail and public transportation improvements throughout the state. The draft allows nearly $10 billion for highway construction and more than $3 billion for rail and public transportation improvements.
The commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation says a major part of the program is the rehabilitation of roads and bridges across the state, which make up 57,000 miles of infrastructure.
The plan has to be presented across the state for public comment before it's adopted in June.
Bristol's public hearing will be held Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Linden Drive.
