Race parking raises money for church

BRISTOL, Tenn. -

Where you park for the race this weekend may have a bigger impact than you think.

Just across the fence from all the action at Bristol Motor Speedway, members of the Volunteer Baptist Church are busy parking cars. They charge $20 per space, and that money goes straight back into operations.

Pastor Tony French says the operation of the parking spaces raises anywhere from $25,000 to $30,000 dollars. He says the church wouldn’t be able to complete all of their projects without it.

"We use it a lot for mission work, children's ministry, youth ministry, we've made several upgrades to our church building. Some upgrades to our property, so it's been a real blessing for us," French says.

French also says while the church will not have services on Sunday, they do see an uptick of visitors at the church during race week.
