Rain or shine, most fireworks shows will go on

The Fourth of July means a big bang in the sky with fireworks, but lately it's just a downpour of rain.
Despite the wet weather fireworks shows are still going on as planned. We caught up with one crew who started working Tuesday to stay ahead of the storms.
Crews are fighting the rain, trying to waterproof fireworks at Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City. The one problem rain has caused -- it's slowed down the setup. "We're trying to keep everything dry. Just as long as we keep them dry everything will go as planned," said Chris Steiner, crew leader with Pyro-Shows Incorporated.
Believe it or not, crews say they can still shoot fireworks off in wet weather, and so rain or shine the Independence Day show in Johnson City will go on. "We may have a delay depending on weather but I think everything is looking good for right now," said organizer Tim Swecker.
But Swecker says if the weather becomes too severe people will be moved inside to stay safe.
Over in Bristol we learned there's no Plan B for the community-wide Fourth of July celebrations. "We're just hoping that things will clear up enough for us to have a celebration. There were too many things that we couldn't change the date of or couldn't move around," said Christina Blevins with Believe in Bristol.
Blevins says the call to cancel fireworks may be made right before show time, but she has a piece of advice. "Everybody, it's just a little bit of rain. Bring your umbrellas, bring your rain jackets, bring your galoshes, and come and celebrate with us," she said.
We checked with several organizers throughout the Tri-Cities on back-up plans with fireworks events:
Kingsport: Show will go on rain or shine. Thunder and lightning is only element that could cancel show.
Abingdon: May have fireworks if it rains during show time; if it's canceled organizers won't be able to reschedule fireworks show this year.
Greeneville: Organizers say they're waiting to make the call to cancel fireworks show at 9 p.m. Organizers say if it rains too hard they'll postpone and reschedule fireworks show.
Marion: Organizers plan on making the call to cancel fireworks show by 4 p.m. If show is canceled they will reschedule fireworks for Saturday.
Unicoi: Plan on having fireworks despite the rain, but if show is canceled tentatively postpone fireworks until Saturday.
Rogersville: Parade will go on rain or shine, depending on weather fireworks show should go on schedule for Saturday.
