The Mine Safety and Health Administration has issued a report on mining deaths in the first quarter of 2013.

According to the report, there have been 11 deaths so far, with nearly half of them in West Virginia. MSHA says eight of the deaths happened in coal mines, with the rest reported in metal and non-metal mines.

There have been five West Virginia coal mine deaths so far this year, with the latest in March.

The reported deaths involved machinery, roof falls and explosions.
