WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -

A South Carolina man convicted of a 2001 rape in Virginia has been sentenced to 33 years in prison.

Investigators used a new forensic tool, familial DNA, to solve the case.

A Williamsburg jury convicted 37-year-old Tyrone Lamont Holloway of Marion, S.C., in December 2013 of raping a young Hungarian woman who had been working at Busch Gardens.

Holloway was sentenced last week in Williamsburg Circuit Court.

The crime remained unsolved until 2012. That's when a familial DNA search by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science suggested the assailant was the brother, father or son of a man whose DNA profile was in the state's offender databank.

The search led police to Holloway.
