School board member calling for end to Yennie’s contract

Sullivan County Director of Schools Jubal Yennie will soon be getting an evaluation by the county's school board at one member's request for his termination.
We learned Todd Broughton, a school board member for the North zone, turned in a petition with over 200 signatures from community members calling for Yennie's resignation or termination.
Broughton told us if Yennie doesn't resign, he wants the school board to vote to end his contract that has about two years left.
Broughton said he feels the North zone in particular has been faced with instability with Yennie's plan to rezone students and close schools after area sixth graders were recently put under Sullivan North's roof.
"I'm just trying to be a voice of the people. The community feels like they just really don't trust the current situation. Dr. Yennie's told them they'd be safe less than a year later they're on the chopping block. They would like to see another leader in the area," said Broughton.
School board chairman Dan Wells told us school board members will discuss their individual evaluations of the director of schools during their meeting on September 9.
We reached out to Yennie Monday to hear his perspective, but have been unable to get a comment at this time.
