SCOTT COUNTY, Va. -

The Scott County Health Department and the Virginia Department of Health have issued a water advisory for parts of Scott County.

Customers of the Scott County PSA Duffield Waterworks who live east of US 23 and north of VA 65 are encouraged to boil tap water or use bottled water until further notice.

The water advisory said a water pipe break has allowed tanks in the area to go empty or nearly empty.  Customers who have no water or low pressure should boil any water used for drinking, food and beverage preparation or ice making.

Customers are advised to bring water to a rolling boil and let it boil for one minute. The Scott County Health Department said the boiling process kills potentially dangerous bacteria or organisms.

The Health Department said the broken pipe has been replaced, and water storage tanks are being refilled.

Scott County anticipates lifting the boil water advisory within a few days.

Scott County schools were dismissed at 1:30 Thursday afternoon due to the water issue.
