SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

Flu season is here and to get you better prepared, local health organizations are kicking off their seasonal flu campaign.

At Friday's press conference, local officials, including the Tennessee and Virginia Commissioners of Health, urged the public to get the flu vaccine.

They say not enough Americans are getting vaccinated for the flu -- only 45 percent nationwide.

"The bottom line is we have 20,000 children every year who end up in the hospital from a preventable disease and that's influenza. If we all get our flu vaccines, we can put a stop to that," says Dr. John Dreyzehner, the Tennessee Commissioner of Health.

The health department offers flu vaccinations at a reduced cost or no cost for those who can't afford them.
