ROCKY MOUNT, Va. -

The owner of a septic service company faces charges of illegally dumping sewage in Franklin County.

The Roanoke Times reports that a Franklin County grand jury indicted 34-year-old Matthew Ferguson on 17 counts, including two felony counts of destruction of property.

The other counts issued by the grand jury last week are misdemeanors. They include dumping trash on private property, unlawful disposal of septic waste and violating health board regulations.

Ferguson owns and operates A Plus Septic Service of Rocky Mount. He's accused of dumping about 2,500 gallons of sewage near a church and Coles Creek in mid-January.

Police say the discharge included human waste, baby wipes and toilet paper.
