UPDATE: 11:15 a.m.: Greene County sheriff's deputies tell us two male students at South Greene High School were involved in an early-morning incident.
It happened in the school cafeteria while students were having breakfast. A 17-year-old male student used a knife to stab a 15-year-old male student.
The suspect was then wrestled to the ground by a female classmate.
There was a school resource officer on site; he was outside as buses were coming in for the day.
The victim was flown to the hospital. We're told he is in stable condition.
No names are being released since both students are juveniles.
Director of schools Dr. Vicki Kirk tells us the school was on a brief lockdown, but it was lifted and students were able to return to first period classes.
Some parents opted to pick up their students.
Extra counselors are on hand.
Authorities haven't yet said what the student will be charged with, but we are told the Greene County Sheriff's Department is handing the investigation.
A stabbing at South Greene High School Tuesday morning sent one student to the hospital and landed another in custody.
According to director of schools Dr. Vickie Kirk, it happened just before 8 a.m., which is before the school day started.
One student was assaulted by another student in a hallway outside of the cafeteria. The victim was flown to the hospital by Wings Air Rescue and the suspect was immediately taken into custody.
There is no word on the condition of the victim and the school system has not released the ages of those involved.
Dr. Kirk says they do not believe there is a continuing threat, and the incident was isolated to the two students involved.
South Greene High School was placed on lockdown for a short time and all students were taken to the gymnasium as a precaution. Dr. Kirk says the lockdown has since been lifted and students have been allowed to go to their classes.
The sheriff's department is continuing the investigation and extra counselors have been called into meet with students.
