TBI investigating officer-involved shooting

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

UPDATE 11:16 a.m.: The man who was shot has been identified as Roger David Street.

The following is a press release from the TBI about the incident.

"The TBI was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred [Sunday] in Sullivan County involving one subject and three SCSO deputies.

Deputies were responding to a report of an injury accident on Egypt Road in Bluff City. When officers arrived they attempted to arrest the subject, Roger David Street (DOB 7/13/55) of Bluff City, for a revoked license and possession of a weapon.

Street refused to exit his vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed toward officers, hitting two with his car. Three deputies opened fire and shot Street.

Street was transported to an Bristol Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. East Tennessee Forensic Center will perform an autopsy.

TBI is currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and will turn the case file over to the District Attorney for review when completed. TBI does not release the names of officers involved in shootings."

TBI agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting with a Sullivan County deputy and a Bluff City police officer.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, around 6:30 Sunday evening a deputy was investigating an accident on Egypt Road.

The driver of the car was still revving his engine and officers asked him to get out. The driver refused then backed up, pinning the deputy between two cars and also injuring a Bluff City officer.

That's when they opened fire, hitting the driver.

We're told the deputy and the officer are okay.

Deputies aren't releasing the names of the driver or the officer’s names. The driver was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The TBI and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are handling the investigation.
