SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

A shooting in Sullivan County on August 18 left one man dead and three officers on administrative leave.

It happened in Bluff City on Sunday evening.

Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson says his officers were in fear for their lives when they shot and killed Roger Street.

The sheriff says the officers, including one from Bluff City, were responding to a crash on Egypt Road, where Street ran into another car. Investigators say Street was standing outside of his car when they arrived, but he got back in and began revving his engine at the officers.

The sheriff says officers ordered him out of the car, but instead of listening Street drove straight ahead toward the officers. "He hit the Bluff City officer on the scene. He also hit the SCSO officer, pinning him between his vehicle and the patrol car," says Sheriff Wayne Anderson.

That's when officers opened fire on Street, killing him.

The two officers who were hit weren't badly hurt; one had glass in his arm, and the other had cuts, scrapes and bruises.

All of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave with pay while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation looks into the incident. Both departments tell us that is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
