TDOT ready for wintry weather
Tennessee Department of Transportation crews spent part of Monday preparing the roads for possible bad weather.
Crews were spreading a melting agent called salt brine on the roads in case the rain starts freezing on the highways overnight. They have 30 trucks available to clear the roads if the weather turns bad.
"We've got plows ready. All you have to do is pull up to the plows and hook up," said TDOT representative David Lewis. "Salt spreaders are already on the trucks."
The local TDOT office in Johnson City has 6,000 tons of salt on hand.
Lewis tells News 5 their first priority will be to clear the interstates first. After that, they'll start working to clear four-lane roads like 11-W and 11-E.
