Captured women speak 7-9-13

The three women held captive for about a decade in a Cleveland, Ohio home are speaking out publicly for the first time since their rescue two months ago. Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight and Amanda Berry along some family members appeared in a YouTube video released for the first time early Tuesday morning thanking the community for its support after their escape. Former bus driver Ariel Castro is accused of kidnapping and raping the women.

When asked what she would want to say to each person out there who supported her, Gina DeJesus said "I would say, 'Thank you for your support.'"

"I will not let the situation define who I am. I will define the situation. I don't want to be consumed by hatred. With that being said, we need to take a leap of faith and know that God is in control," said Michelle Knight in the YouTube video.

You may remember Amanda Berry. She's the Cleveland woman who authorities say broke free from the home and called 9-11. Her grandparents and father live in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Amanda Berry announced Tuesday morning, "First and foremost, I want everyone to know how happy I am to be home with my family and friends. It's been unbelievable. I want to thank everyone who has helped me and my family through this entire ordeal. Everyone who has been there to support us, it's been a blessing to have such an outpouring of love and kindness. I'm getting stronger each day and having my privacy has helped immensely. I ask that everyone continues to respect our privacy and give us time to have a normal life."

A 329-count indictment, which only covers five years of  captivity, accuses him of repeated beatings and rapes. He's also charged with Aggravated Murder related to the termination of one of their pregnancies.
