Three teenagers sent to the hospital after car accident

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Three teenagers were taken to the hospital after a crash Saturday evening.

According to Kingsport Police the accident happened around 8:45 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 81 near mile 64.

We’re told the a car driven by 19-year-old Benjamin Ball of Abingdon, Virginia was heading southbound when the driver lost control of the car. Police say the car spun across both southbound lanes of the interstate, careened off the guardrail and came to a stop sideways in the road.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He was charged with failure to maintain control and for not having insurance.

Three passengers in the car were injured. A 15-year-old female in the front seat was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. Police say she was wearing her seat belt.

An 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both in the back seat, were not wearing seat belts. They both were taken to the hospital and are also expected to recover.
