Trail Days gets under way
Trail Days got into full swing today in Damascus, Virginia.
A celebration providing folks hiking the appalachian trail to stop, meet friends, and enjoy the hospitality of the small town.
Damascus swells to tens of thousands of people for the weekend. Last year an unfortunate accident injured several during the annual parade, so now security and safety is a main concern for the small police force in the town.
Damascus police chief Bill Nunley says, "During trail days of course we got 20 to 25-thousand individuals in town. Residents, we've got 900 to a thousand that we're used to. So we call in some additional help. We want to stress safety to everybody."
The trail celebration continues through the weekend with music, vendors and of course the annual hikers parade on saturday.
