KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

There have been two horrific car crashes on Fort Henry Drive in just one week -- three people were killed those wrecks while driving on the same stretch of road.

Both crashes were about a half-mile from each other.

Kingsport Police tell us the first was a result of excessive speeding, and the second was caused when someone ran a red light.

We did some digging and found that Fort Henry Drive ranks second in the city of Kingsport for most crashes; Stone Drive is number one.

So far this year, there have been 156 wrecks on Fort Henry Drive. In 2012, there were 246. In 2011, there were 255, and in 2010 there were 223.

The only two fatal accidents on that road since 2010 were the ones this past week. "I think in this case, location is really the only thing these two wrecks have in common. One was a result of a speeding vehicle crossing the center line, and the other was a result of a vehicle running a red light," says Tom Patton with the Kingsport Police Department.

The city says because Fort Henry Drive is so heavily traveled, its prone to more wrecks.

Every time there's a crash, they evaluate the area to see if there's anything they can do to make the road safer.
