The head of the Virginia Board of Education will be in the region Wednesday to learn about issues facing the state's public schools.

Board President David Foster will visit schools in Washington and Wythe counties to allow parents, teachers, local school board members and administrators to express their views on education in the Commonwealth.

The board is responsible for setting policies for public schools, including establishing curriculum and accountability standards for schools and licensure requirements for educators.
