VIRGINIA -

Even with a very wet June and July, Virginia State Parks saw record attendance last year.

More than 8-point-8 million people visited the parks in 2013, that's a 6-percent jump over 2012's attendance - which was a record at the time.

And they brought in more money. Overall, the parks had an economic impact of 206-million last year, that's 4 percent higher than 2012's record.

According to State Parks Director Joe Elton, the parks help local economies generate more than 12-dollars for every 1-dollar allocated in the state budget.

The 36 parks are scattered throughout The Commonwealth; 6 of them are in our region.
